Hua Hin to Koh Talu: How to Get to the Pier and Book the Boat
By Hua Hin Taxi Cab
Koh Talu is a small clear-water island off the coast of Bang Saphan in Prachuap Khiri Khan, roughly 185β200 km south of Hua Hin. The tricky part is not the boat ride, it is reaching the pier in time for the morning boat. This guide covers how to get there, what the transfer costs and how to book the boat, all in one place.
Where is Koh Talu and why go?
Koh Talu sits in the Gulf of Thailand off Bang Saphan Noi and Bang Saphan. Its name comes from a rock with a hole worn right through it ("talu" means "pierced" in Thai). The water around the island is fairly clear, which makes it a favourite for snorkelling over coral and schools of fish, and the island is also known for its sea turtle conservation project.
Most visitors do Koh Talu as a day trip: boat out in the morning, snorkel at a few spots and head back to shore in the afternoon. Others stay a night in Bang Saphan or Ban Krut so they do not have to rush.
How to get from Hua Hin to the Koh Talu pier
There is no direct bus from Hua Hin to the Koh Talu pier. By public transport you would take a bus or train down to Bang Saphan and then find another ride to the pier, which takes time and makes the morning boat easy to miss.
The simplest option is a private taxi from your Hua Hin hotel straight to the pier. The drive takes about 2 h 30 min on Phetkasem Road (Highway 4), and your driver times the departure around your boat. Drop-off at the pier costs the same as Bang Saphan, with no surcharge.
